I'm Alan Edge and I’m standing as a Local Independent Candidate on 24th May. I promise to fight the corner of the residents of the new Local Election Area of Firhouse and Bohernabreena, which includes Firhouse, Bohernabreena, Glenasmole, Knocklyon, Edmondstown and Ballycullen.

I live locally in Glenasmole. Though from Dublin, I spent years in London as a legal-aid barrister, fighting on behalf of vulnerable people and giving them a voice. As your representative, I will use my skills to be an advocate for those of you who pay and pay but get nothing in return.

I have campaigned tirelessly for social justice, equality and inclusion and will continue to do so. Through my work with Minister Katherine Zappone, I have provided help to people in this area and elsewhere, in crucial areas such as health, childcare and advocating for reduced waiting lists for early intervention services.

I’ve spent the past few years knocking on doors and I know that there’s a real sense that the council simply doesn’t listen to residents and that’s just not good enough. My promise to you is to be a strong voice on your behalf and to make our local authority listen and deliver on sensible planning, safer communities, better public services and a clean environment in which to live.

‘Alan is a true champion of the people. He has worked tirelessly with me for the past few years and I have no doubt he will be incredibly successful at representing the people of Firhouse-Bohernbareena’

- Independent TD Katherine Zappone, Minister for Children and Youth Affairs

Our Home

Intelligent and sustainable planning is our council’s chief responsibility but it’s one which they are neglecting. I will fight to ensure that the council uses joined-up thinking when it comes to new projects and that they plan ahead when it comes to the provision of adequate schools, healthcare and road and transport links. I will fight hard to defend much-needed green spaces, play areas and sports grounds: new development should never come at the expense of much-needed amenities for existing local communities.

Our Community

I believe passionately in supporting and funding local community groups to ensure that they continue to be the engines driving positive changes environmentally, economically and culturally. I will also hold the council to its responsibility to ensure that all new schools are fully accessible and have proper special needs services. I will work to foster better communication between communities and Gardaí to help to reduce crime and I will actively support initiatives for our older residents.

Our Surroundings

The scourge of illegal dumping is costing us all dearly and I will continue to work hard to combat this problem. I will also continue to support the amazing work of local residents on clean initiatives and efforts to tackle climate change. I will also encourage a greater appreciation of our unique and beautiful local heritage and I will strive to ensure that poor local authority decision-making is never allowed to put it at risk.
